Return to Nuke Em High Trailer!
Mutants, monsters, gore, bouncing boobs, differently abled self-love and scrotum-to-the-face action. Who else but Troma would so gleefully bring these elements together, boiling the toxic sludge inside the cracked skull of a dead hobo?
We’re pretty excited about Return to Nuke ‘Em High here at Neon Maniacs. That brand of body melting, flouro-coloured, synth scored trash cinema (that was so quintessentially 1980s) informs much the ethos and identity of this website.
The teaser (from a work in progress) offers a nice glimpse into what we can expect. Rubbery monsters and celebrity cameos aside, we hope this will have more of an edgy presence as seen in recent Troma acquisitions like the brilliant Father’s Day (mad props to Astron-6).
Whether this will be good Troma (like the original Toxic Avenger and Tromeo and Juliet) or bad Troma (like the Toxic Avenger sequels and Nuke Em High sequels of the 90s [shudders]) remains to be seen. In the meantime, enjoy this jiggly, bubbly, scrotummy trailer and keep your eye stalks turned towards Neon Maniacs and further coverage of this as it emerges...
Return to Nuke Em High will premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival. Support 'Uncle' Lloyd Kaufman's latest documentary about the festival, Occupy Cannes, by donating to the film's Indiegogo page here.
A lifetime devotee of all things horrific and humorous in popular culture, Anthony O’Connor’s first produced feature film screenplay was Angst (2000). A (kinda) romantic, black comedy about a sexually frustrated horror writer, the film was critically well received and enjoyed by a loyal, albeit tiny, cult following.
Since then, Anthony has taken gigs doing dialogue punch-up and script doctoring in TV and film, including work for Alex Proyas (The Crow) and Michael Rymer (Battlestar Galactica). His recent “office giallo” Redd Inc. (released by FANGORIA in the USA as Inhuman Resources) is currently being enjoyed by gore hounds the world over.
