Nintendo Announces the 2DS
Posted by Daniel Mann
In News that came completely out of left field today, Nintendo announced its new Entry Level family member to the 3DS lineup. Now re-branded as the Nintendo 2DS. The 2DS will be available for $129.99 USD and is set to launch October 12th -- coinciding with the release of Pokemon X and Y.
To reiterate, the 2DS contains almost the exact same specs as a 3DS and will still be compatible with the current 3DS Software Lineup. Although a few features have been sacrificed as a means of cost cutting. As the rebranded name suggests, Nintendo has abandoned both the primary top 3D screen and clamshell design in favour for something that looks more akin to the Wii U Gamepad. Also, in efforts to keep the cost down, it has dropped the Stereo Speakers in favour of a Mono Speaker.
Who exactly is this Entry Level effort designed to appeal to? According to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fills-Aime, A younger demographic, preferably below the age of Seven.
