The Green Inferno is Eli Roth's Most Violent Film
Posted by Stephen Lambrechts
We've been waiting for the return of the infamous Italian Cannibal sub-genre of horror for quite some time here at Neon Maniacs, and Eli Roth (a.k.a. The Bear Jew) is the man that is currently bringing it back.
His new cannibal film, The Green Inferno, has now received an R-rating from the MPAA and according to the board, the film contains 'aberrant' violence. For those without their dictionary handy, that means 'departing from an accepted standard' and 'deviating from the proper or expected course'. Sounds awesome to me! Here is the full description given by the MPAA:
"Rated R for aberrant violence and torture, grisly disturbing images, brief graphic nudity, sexual content, language and some drug use."
Wicked. Here's hoping Roth hasn't lost his touch since directing Hostel 2 almost 6 years ago. The film will premiere at the Midnight Madness portion of the Toronto International Film Festival. Amusingly, the festival's blog chart's Eli Roth's evolution as a violent filmmaker:
"Check out Roth's past MPAA scorecards. His violence started as "strong," then went to "brutal," then "sadistic," and finally to The Green Inferno's particularly evocative "aberrant." That's called "growing as a filmmaker." Tell us your favourite cannibal film in the comments below! ---------------
