Hayao Miyazaki to Retire from Directing
Posted by Stephen Lambrechts
A favourite of ours around these parts *tries not to point at crotch*, filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki has provided the world with some of the most delightful animated films of all time, including Princess Mononoke, Ponyo, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away and many, many more. It is with great sadness that we relay the news reported by Twitchfilm of his retirement from feature directing.
The announcement was made today by Studio Ghibli president Hoshino Koji at the Venice Film Festival where Miyazaki's latest film, The Wind Rises, is in competition. Koji denied further comment.
It must be said that Miyazaki has said he would retire twice before, but the fact that this announcement was made by the Studio Ghibli president makes us think that it's for real this time. Sadface.
