Joe Dante to Direct Roger Corman Biopic

Screen Daily has today reported that director Joe Dante (GREMLINS, THE HOWLING, PIRANHA) is set to direct a biopic about his mentor, the mega producer/director/writer/film legend Roger Corman (I had the good fortune to interview the man a couple of years ago. Read that interview here).
Corman gave Dante his big break when he hired the aspiring young director to make the films HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD and PIRANHA (as well as some uncredited work on ROCK 'N' ROLL HIGH SCHOOL) for Corman's company, New World PIctures. This means that Dante would have some excellent first-hand knowledge of what Roger Corman was like back in the heyday of exploitation films.
The film will be a comedy set in Hollywood during the late '60s. Roger Corman has apparently given the project his blessing and will appear as himself at some point in the film. Whether the film will take inspiration from Corman's films is unknown. Personally, I'd like to see Corman escape a jungle prison while chained to Pam Grier.
