EDGE OF TOMORROW Trailer Is Packed With Awesome

Doug Liman is one of my favourite directors, and has been since his incredible debut, SWINGERS. Not only is that film one of my favourite comedies ever, Liman followed his debut with the wonderful GO and the film that started probably the best modern action franchise around, THE BOURNE IDENTITY. Any missteps that may have occurred since then will never undo this amazing hat trick of films. Needless to say, I've been waiting on EDGE OF TOMORROW (formerly titled ALL YOU NEED IS KILL after the Japanese novel it is based on) with baited breath. Tom Cruise's involvement guarantees a certain level of quality, and Emily Blunt is also starting to rack up a nice sci-fi filmography as well. So does the trailer satisfy? Holy shit, does it ever! EDGE OF TOMORROW is futuristic war movie about sword-wielding warriors in mech/exo suits (total WARHAMMER 40K vibes), but it has a GROUNDHOG DAY twist, in which a wet-behind-the-ears recruit is killed in battle over and over again until he can become the warrior he's destined to be in order to help win the war. The trailer is packed with awesome mech-suit action and sci-fi goodness, and seems to be the most visually ambitious Doug Liman film yet.
